5 Ways I've Updated My Home This Season

We've been in our house now for eight months now and although we've added our own spin to the space by decking out the fire place, adding in shelves and other ornaments, the Summer season has really inspired me to get a few of the last rooms finished and updated. I'm forever switching out my homeware, putting books on different shelves and moving my home decorations around, so today I thought I'd share with you some of the updates I've made and what I plan to do too.

Ladder Shelves | I've been on the look out for the perfect set of ladder shelves for some time now and stumbled across the Matalan ones one day on the internet and was instantly smitten. They're great at storing all of your pretty ornaments, but they also work well at having just that little bit extra space of storage to stack up books, store away candles or makeup products. I got them when I had an empty space to fill in my living room and paired with my oversized lamp from Ikea, it's the perfect pairing.

Greenery | I think you're all aware by now how much I adore anything green and fresh looking. Plants are super easy as they perk up my white walls, add colour in all the right places and genuinely make me feel a bit better. I'm really into hanging plants that can be draped over the corner of shelves and planters that are great for standing in a large cactus for a statement feature.

Books | As I previously mentioned, books have become quite a big part of my interior lately and not just because it gives me an excuse to buy more pretty bookends. I feel like they add a bit of character to a room and I always have people peeping at my book collection whenever they come around too. I like to stack the pretty ones on my ladder shelves and then line up the others on my book case in the alcove.

Textures | I've put my blankets and throws away into a wire basket for now whilst the weather remains warm, but I've been on the look out for a new rug. We've already got a long runner one to go underneath our coffee table, but as our living room is long and quite large, I really want another one to split up the space and add texture. This John Lewis Rhombus Berber one is the perfect pick as it fits with my colour scheme, but still adds a little something (Plus it's in the sale too!).

Cushions are another thing that I've been updating this season, swapping out any worn out covers for new, plush ones. These H&M Jacquard Weave ones are absolutely gorgeous and quite understated meaning I think I can get away with having one or two paired with some fluffy grey cushions on my sofa.

Ornaments | Okay, so a big framed long length mirror isn't exactly delicate, but I had to mention my love for mirrors and their ability to make a room look bigger, whilst tying everything together. A long length mirror was exactly what our bedroom needed, propped up against the wall it can be both practical and pretty.

Next up is delicate ornaments and the West Elm Brass Hello offering is the best example of this as it adds colour and fills a blank space with ease. Although my love for copper is still very strong, I've got to admit that I'm more drawn to brass and blush pink at the moment to add colour to a room.

Here are a few of the pieces I love or am lusting after:
