MAC Lipstick Collection

[ L-R Top-  Diva, Brave, Captive, Twig.      Bottom - Ruby Woo, Velvet Teddy, Playing Koi, Viva Glam II ]

MAC have always been a hit and miss brand for me and although I own an excessive amount of their products now, it wasn't until a year ago that I started to build up my collection. Now though, every time I venture into MAC I always end up putting one or two lipsticks into my basket. From matte reds to satin nudes, MAC has it all. So today I thought I would share with you my collection of MAC lipsticks.

The Hits

Whenever I go into MAC I always scour the satin and matte sections looking for any new releases as these are the finishes that I enjoy wearing the most. Brave and Twig are both easy to wear, highly pigmented and compliment my skin tone perfectly. Although I am an avid nude lip wearer, I always get excited for getting my berry and plum shades out during the Autumn and Winter months. Diva, a divine matte burgundy hue, is perfect for pairing with a neutral eye on a night out. For day time wear I usually opt for Captive, Diva's more subtle and natural sister. Both of these have long wearing formulas, but I find that Captive wins due to it's semi-gloss finish that feels more comfortable to wear on a day-to-day basis. Of course a MAC lipstick collection wouldn't be complete without one red lip offering and this one certaintly doesn't disappoint; Ruby Woo, a cult classic and a loved shade by many, has been featured on my blog many times before for very good reason. With an extremely matte, highly pigmented formula, once applied this lip shade doesn't budge. Instead it stains the lips with a flawless red hue that compliments a variety of skin tones and can be worn on all occasions.

The Misses

Although there are a lot of MAC lipsticks that I enjoy wearing, there's a few that I have found less than impressive. Velvet Teddy, a shade that was made popular during the Kylie Jenner craze, is the latest hue to disappoint. Although it looks great on others, I find the formula dries my lips out and the shade doesn't compliment my skin tone. Playing Koi, a limited edition lipstick and Viva Glam II were the first two lipsticks I ever bought from MAC. Due to their underwhelming shades, finishes and formulas these two lipsticks were the reason I didn't go back to a MAC counter for several years. During the "concealer lip" phase years back, Playing Koi was all the rage, but even then I didn't like it. Despite the initial disappointment of my first MAC lipstick purchase, I went back for another one - cue Viva Glam II; a muted beige similar to that of Velvet Teddy. Not only was it drying on the lips, but it applied patchy, came off in clumps and didn't sit comfortably.

What MAC lipstick would you never be without?
